HorseAccording to House of Commons records, Conservative MP for Tewkesbury Laurence Robertson claimed more than £4,000 in hospitality from gambling lobbyists over the course of just four days during the recent racing festival at Cheltenham race course in March.

This follows reports that Robertson had accepted more than £14,000 worth of free tickets and hospitality at horse racing events since the beginning of 2019 from betting firms such as Ladbrooks and William Hill in his role as Chairman of the All-Party Group on Racing.

Concerns have also been raised that Cheltenham may have helped spread the coronavirus across the area, the county and nationwide, with tens of thousands descending on the town despite the stringent lockdown measures taking place in countries such as Italy and Spain.

Alex Hegenbarth, Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Spokesperson for the Tewkesbury constituency, said "Everytime his expenses get filed we see another story on how our MP is being wined-and-dined by gambling lobbyists. These stories are becoming an annual embarrassment which has only been further underlined by the struggles local people and businesses are going through in dealing with the impact of COVID-19. It's time we had an MP who focused on the casework, not the champagne cases"
