We demand better than Tory health downgrades

Cheltenham HospitalLiberal Democrats are demanding better after NHS bosses revealed proposals for another downgrade to Cheltenham General Hospital. The bad news comes as the Tory government continues to underfund the NHS. The latest proposals will see emergency and Inpatient surgery cases centralised at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital, removing services from Cheltenham General Hospital, our nearest hospital. Almost 60 Consultants and senior doctors at Cheltenham General Hospital have said that moving out of hours General Surgery to Gloucestershire Royal Hospital could put patients at risk. The jam tomorrow Tories haven't told anyone where the additional funds promised for our NHS will come from and they have admitted themselves their spending programme won't be complete until 2023. The reality on the ground is more service cuts. Our local Trust last achieved the government's own standards on cancer waits in September 2014, A&E times in November 2017 and no longer even publishes waits for operations. The Liberal Democrat policy of a 1p income tax increase would raise £6 billion to be spent on the NHS and social care services.
