Alistair Cameron, Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Candidate for Tewkesbsury, said,

'We all know the immense debt we owe to members of the Armed Forces serving at home and overseas. It is important they they do not lose support when they are sadly invalided out, or have served their time. A Veterans' Minister would ensure proper co-ordination of resources.'

Measures proposed by the Liberal Democrats include working with armed forces charities and homelessness charities to ensure veterans do not fall between the gaps in services, and get the help they need to get back on their feet.

The proposals include:

  • Creating a veterans commissioner to knock heads together in DWP, the Department of Health and the MoD to get veterans the help they need.
  • Investment in services such as community based therapy, support for alcohol and drug misuse, short stay hospital treatment, support through a telephone hotline and more targeted employment support.
