Lib Dems Call to Protect Children’s Centres in Gloucestershire

March 29, 2012 10:11 AM

LIBERAL Democrats on Gloucestershire County Council yesterday received unanimous cross-party support at Shire Hall.

A motion submitted by the Liberal Democrats and debated by full council praised the hard work of staff employed at Gloucestershire's children centres.

Liberal Democrats also called on the Cabinet to ensure that any changes to the future operation and management of children's centres follow robust processes.

The management of children's centres across Gloucestershire will be going out for tender in clusters at Cabinet in June this year.

Liberal Democrat spokesperson for Children and Young People, Cllr. Sheppard, said:

"We are extremely pleased that we have cross-party support on such an important issue. The county's children centres offer a tremendous amount of support for those who use them."

The Liberal Democrat Group Leader, Councillor Jeremy Hilton, said:

"Today the Tory administration agreed with us that the tendering process for the management of children centres should focus on quality and good outcomes for the county's children especially those from disadvantaged families.

"We now have an assurance there won't be budget cuts. This is good news.
