Jeremy HiltonLiberal Democrats plan to help those currently in receipt of 'Meals on Wheels' by proposing a freeze in the charges for hot or frozen meals.

The current cost of a community hot meal is £3.50 and £2.50 for a frozen meal with prices for 2012/2013 still under discussion with cabinet members.

In 2010/2011, just under a quarter of million meals were served to over a thousand individuals, which included older people, individuals with learning disabilities, physical disabilities and those suffering mental health problems.

Leader of the Liberal Democrats on Gloucestershire County Council Cllr Jeremy Hilton said: "Times are hard for everyone. We must do our best to protect the vulnerable. We can do this by keeping the price of a community meal the same as it is today."

When the county council meets next Wednesday(22nd Feb), the Liberal Democrat group will propose that the price of a hot or frozen meal stays the same.
