Alistair Cameron requests Secretary of State to ensure motorway bridge work is completed as soon as possible

Alistair Cameron, Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Spokesman for Tewkesbury, has written to the Rt Hon Justine Greening MP, Secretary of State for Transport asking her to minimise the impact of the planned closure of the A4019 Tewkesbury Road between March 2012 and March 2013.

Alistair has asked for the following action to be taken:-

  1. 24 hour working in order to get the bridge repair work completed as soon as possible.
  2. Ensuring that a full traffic management plan is in place before work starts with diversion routes which take account of the impact on existing roads and bus services.
  3. Providing a compensation scheme for local businesses which recognises the impact of the work on them.
  4. Providing weight and waiting restrictions to minimise the impact of the road closure on affected communities.
  5. Ensuring that access to the motorway through the site is available to all emergency vehicles.

"I appreciate this is important road safety work which needs to go ahead. However, the closure of the A4019 for a year will inevitably have a major impact on local residents and businesses.
