Alistair Cameron urges Council not to cut bus services

Alistair Cameron, Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Spokesman for Tewkesbury has urged the County Council to retain bus service 521 between Priors Park, Tewkesbury and Mitton which is currently under threat as part of the Council's bus review. Alistair has also asked the Council to keep a bus service between Alderton, Winchcombe and Cheltenham as services for Alderton are also under threat.

Alistair said:

"The County Council is considering cutting the Priors Park service and the Alderton services and replacing them with what it calls community transport. However, we do not know how these community transport services will operate in practice.

Many residents would far prefer to have the knowledge that buses can be caught at specific times rather than using community transport. Bus customers are also concerned that community transport could be very expensive.

I am worried that if we lose the existing bus service for Priors Park many elderly and vulnerable residents could lose out.

I have also been contacted by elderly residents in Alderton who rely on the bus service to get to Winchcombe or Cheltenham in order to get their basic provisions. If we lose these services, some vulnerable people could be stranded."

Alistair has written to the County Council to express these concerns as part of the Council's consultations on the bus review. The consultation process has now ended and we are waiting to see what the Council decides to do.
