As a result of the raising of the income tax threshold that the Lib Dems in Government have delivered, 32,500 Tewkesbury residents will pay £200 a year less tax from April and in addition 1,170 will be lifted out of paying Income Tax altogether, recent research figures have revealed.

Alistair Cameron, Parliamentary Spokesperson for Tewkesbury Constituency, said 'I realise this is a difficult and uncertain time for many people within Tewkesbury Constituency. However, I am pleased that the Liberal Democrat influence in the Coalition is starting to have important benefits on the ground where help is most needed. The tax system needs to be made fairer and this is a first step towards making the first £10,000 of earnings tax free. Already 900 000 people nationwide will stop paying any income tax from April including 1,170 of the most deserving in Tewkesbury. By clamping down on tax evasion and increasing Capital Gains Tax to 28% for higher rate payers, we are striving to make the tax system fairer.'
