EU funding to help businesses protect the environment

November 30, 2010 7:41 PM

South West MEP Graham Watson will on Friday 3 December be briefed by an Environment Agency (EA) team based in Bristol on an EU funded project that is set to deliver savings to UK businesses of over £86m.

The EU's Life+ programme has a budget of €2.143 billion for 2007-13, and supports initiatives that help businesses find innovative ways to protect the environment and biodiversity. This year €16m has been awarded to British projects.

Watson believes the UK is not taking full advantage of the opportunities offered by the fund. He said:

"Life+ funding has enabled a great deal of positive work to happen in the UK. However, if individuals and groups had a better awareness of the programme we could get much more out of it. I look forward not only to hearing more about the newly funded project, but also discussing how South West groups can make the most of our EU membership."
