Alistair Cameron to visit Moog Controls Limited in Ashchurch to discuss the importance of manufacturing to our economy

April 20, 2010 9:26 PM

Alistair Cameron, Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Candidate will be visiting Moog Controls Ltd in Ashchurch on Wednesday, 21 April in order to discuss the importance of manufacturing to our economy and the active role that the government can play in ensuring that manufacturing is at the heart of a healthy UK economy.

Alistair said: "Liberal Democrats want to reduce the burden of unnecessary red tape on business in order to minimise the costs and burdens on manufacturers. We would put an end to the 'so called 'gold plating' of European Union rules so that British businesses are not disadvantaged relative to our European competitors."

Alistair added: "Liberal Democrats recognise the vital role which apprenticeships play in order to maintain a high level of skill in the workplace. We would therefore fully meet the up-front costs of adult apprenticeships."

"Our policy is also to provide a work placement scheme with up to 800,000 places to ensure that young people have the opportunity to gain skills, qualifications and work experience even if they cannot find a job. Young people on the scheme would be paid £55 a week for up to three months."

Moog are a member of the Engineering Employers' Federation and Alistair supports their "We Love Manufacturing" campaign, details of which can be found at www.lovemanufacturing.co.uk
