Liberal Democrat's 'Green Policies' welcomed by 'Friends of the Earth'

April 15, 2010 2:52 PM

Green Liberal Democrats'Friends of the Earth' has welcomed Liberal Democrat policies stating that, "The Liberal Democrats have shown that the environment can be at the heart of policy-making by including it in every section of their manifesto."

These were the words of Friends of the Earth's Executive Director Andy Atkins, commenting on the Liberal Democrats 2010 Party Manifesto, launched on Wednesday.

Mr Atkins went on to say, "Their environmental policies have been woven into their economic recovery plans, recognising that building a low-carbon future will create thousands of new green jobs and business opportunities for Britain"

Alistair Cameron, Liberal Democrat Parliamentary candidate for Tewkesbury Constituency commented, " I am delighted that our range of green policies, such as tackling emissions in the food sector on encouraging people to use public transport by cutting rail fares, have been recognised by the 'green lobby' as … 'a lot for people to welcome'. Locally, I have been campaigning with residents against building an incinerator in Gloucestershire, in favour of more environmentally favourable solutions to waste disposal, and to close the hazardous waste site in Bishop's Cleeve. I really believe the people of our area have green issues at heart."
