On Wednesday 24th June, campaigners from the Save the Countryside group presented their local County Councillor Suzanne Williams with a petition containing over 1500 signatures, urging the County Council to resist the temptation to sell any land to developers that is currently in the greenbelt.

The County Council owns some of the land to the north west of Cheltenham which has been earmarked by the government as an 'urban extension'. If the government gives the go ahead for building on the greenbelt around Cheltenham then the County Council could potentially make a lot of money by selling some of its land to developers. The 1500 plus name petition is asking them to make a stand and refuse to sell the land.

Councillor Suzanne Williams said "If the County Council really are serious about defending our green spaces against development then they will support the campaigners and refuse to cave in to developers, as the local councillor for the area I was pleased to receive this petition on behalf of local residents and I have now presented it to the full council."
